Return to: Majors and Minors
Total Semester Hours Required for the TESL/TEFL Minor: 18 semester hours
The interdisciplinary Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language minor provides background and experience in second-language acquisition. This pre-professional minor is appropriate for pre-service teachers who want to gain additional understanding of how to effectively teach the emergent bi-lingual population of students in K-12 schools in the United States; students who plan to work with adult emergent bilinguals in the United States; and students who plan to teach English abroad. This minor is open to students in any major. Foreign language study or experience is encouraged but not required. The minor does not lead to an endorsement; however, it does provide a foundation from which graduates can go on to complete an endorsement at the master’s level or complete TESOL certification.
