  • CHM 5007 - Energy Chemistry


    (3-0-3) This course reviews the thermochemistry of traditional hydrocarbon fuels including petroleum, natural gas, and coal, the chemical reactions and materials involved in battery technology, solar energy conversion using organic photovoltaics, and energy related biomolecules and their metabolic and biochemical transformation into fuel-grade molecules. Students will gain a general understanding of chemical bonding and energy stored in chemical bonds as well as energy-related biomolecules and their catabolism. In addition, students will gain comprehensive knowledge of microbial and biochemical bioprocesses.

  • CDS 4810 - Sign Language and Deaf Culture for the Speech-Language-Pathologist


    (2-0-2)  This course will introduce students to varied forms of manual communication (e.g., signed English, American Sign Language, Cued Speech) and Deaf Culture. Students will develop accuracy and fluency with receptive and expressive signing skills, including basic vocabulary and simple conversation.

    (2-1-2) Course will provide information on alternative and augmentative communication systems (AAC) for individuals with severe communication disorders.  Students will gain mastery of knowledge and skills necessary for assessment and treatment of individuals who use AAC. Students will also gain operational competence and have hands on practice with a variety of AAC systems.

  • CDS 5130 - Advanced Speech Sound Disorders


    (2-0-2) Differential diagnosis of childhood speech sound disorders related to linguistic, phonetic and structural etiologies.  Covers selection and interpretation of assessments, and differentiation of key elements of anatomy, physiology, speech production, and resonance.  Analysis and integration of child’s comprehensive speech profile with evidence based practice for defensible recommendations and intervention techniques.

  • CDS 5170 - Voice Production and Disorders.


    (2-0-2)  Study of the normal physiologic process of voice production and resonance and the etiologic bases of voice disorders. Assessment procedures including instrumentation for examination and interpretation of laryngeal structure and function for the purpose of differential diagnosis will be included. Development of treatment plans based on etiology will be addressed.

    (1-1-1) Course is an advanced study of differential diagnosis of communication disorders using principles of standardized and non-standardized assessment.  Students will develop clinical hypotheses and diagnostic questions, analyze standardized assessment tools, and interpret assessment data to draw defensible diagnostic conclusions.  Students will apply diagnostic principles in case-based lab assignments.

  • CDS 5920 - Audiology for the Speech-Language Pathologist


    (1-1-1)  Covers the assessment of auditory processing and hearing disorders in adults and children, with an emphasis on identifying implications and remediation methods.  Addresses classroom management for the deaf and/or hard of hearing child, including amplification options and counseling. Students participate in supervised diagnostic evaluations with a variety of auditory disorders.
