Technology: Certificate in Cybersecurity

Certificate Program Mission:  The graduate certificate program in Cybersecurity is designed to provide graduate students and professionals working in industry and business with focused course work on cybersecurity including facility security, network and database security, as well as management policies on security of technological systems.  The program will help prepare the workforce in Illinois to be knowledgeable and competitive in the security profession and the security market.   

 
Admission to Graduate Certificate Program:
To be eligible for admission to the Graduate School, applicants must have obtained a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution approved by Eastern Illinois University and achieved a minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or a 2.75 GPA on the last 60 hours of graded academic course work.  For post-graduate candidates, the Graduate School criteria include completion of a graduate degree from an accredited institution approved by Eastern Illinois University and a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Degree Audit: The graduate plan of study is the EIU Degree Audit, which is generated automatically at the time of degree or certificate candidacy. Modifications of the standard EIU Degree Audit are submitted by the graduate coordinator to the certification officer in the Graduate School at the time modifications are approved. The Degree Audit serves as an unofficial summary of requirements for the program. Degree and certificate candidates are advised to review the comprehensive summary of the Degree Audit process specified on the “Requirements for All Degree and Certificate Candidates” section of the Graduate Catalog. Individual programs may require candidates to submit plans of study in addition to the Degree Audit, candidates should consult with the program coordinator.

 

Course/Curriculum Requirements


The Cybersecurity Certificate program requires 18 semester hours of study including both required and elective courses.  Specific requirements are as follows:

12 semester hours of required course work are listed below. The remaining 6 semester hours are electives that may be selected from the list below.

6 semester hours from the following list:

Other special topics ODL 4850, TEC 4970 and TEC 5970 courses as approved by the academic advisor may be used as electives.

Courses Applicable Toward a Specific Concurrent or Future Degree Program


Upon approval from the graduate coordinator, all course credits completed for the certificate program may be applied to a M. S. in Technology degree and graduate certificate programs at Eastern Illinois University.  All graduate courses applied to the certificate or degree program must be completed within the six-year time limit.  All other regulations established by the Graduate School pertaining to degree study would be applicable to the courses for concurrent or future degree program.


Certificate Study Plan


A certificate study plan must be approved by the Coordinator of Graduate Study and be filed with the Graduate School no later than the 10 th day of classes during the candidate’s final term of study.
