MUS 1501 - Comprehensive Musicianship I.


(3-2-4) F, S. Following a review of fundamental concepts, this course focuses on part-writing, analysis, and performance of basic diatonic phrases, first in the context of two-voice counterpoint, then in four-voice chorale and piano textures. Students analyze, write, recognize, perform, and explain basic diatonic phrases and become familiar with the most common non-chord tones and voice leading rules.

Prerequisites & Notes:
Placement through either the Musicianship Diagnostic Test or Transfer Exam or successful completion of MUS 0541 with a “C” or better.
