    (3-0-3) An in-depth study of how culture influences human thinking, feeling, and behavior. Theories and research addressing the impact of culture on various psychological concepts are examined. Topics may include consciousness, sensation and perception, problem solving and decision making, intelligence, emotion, motivation, behavior, social perception and interactions, development, and psychological disorders.

  • PSY 4810 - Neuropsychopharmacology


    (3-0-3) Neuropsychopharmacology is the study of the neural mechanisms of drugs that influence thought, behavior, sensation, and mood. Research and theories on the mechanisms of neuropathology, pharmacodynamics (drug action), neurologic and psychiatric disorders, and states of consciousness may be covered. Details on neurotransmission, biochemical processes, and neural circuitry are presented.

    (3-0-3) A competency-based course in personality assessment techniques designed for use with children and adolescents.     (4-0-4) Intensive study of the nature of intelligence and its measurement. Administration, interpretation-report writing and critical analysis of Wechsler and Stanford-Binet scales are emphasized. Non-biased assessment, assessment of minorities and exceptional populations, and applications of individually administered intelligence instruments are studied.   • PSY 5023 - Preschool Assessment for Prevention and Intervention


    (3-0-3) This course will consist of classroom instruction and discussion, and practical experience. The classroom component will deal with the assessment of young children’s cognitive, pre-academic, adaptive, and social-emotional development. Students will learn how to evaluate and administer various assessments with young children or their caregivers to assist in intervention planning.  Students will administer select practice assessments and provide written summary evaluations. Students will also learn about risk factors related to preschool academic failure and prevention and intervention to increase young student success. Consideration is given to children from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Requires additional fee to cover costs of forms needed for psychological testing.

    (3-0-3) This course aims to provide students with a systematic and comprehensive introduction working with students with neurodevelopmental and related disabilities. As this is a course intended for school psychology students, course content and examples will have an emphasis on working with children in schools. Material will cover the history of school neuropsychology, the structure and functioning of the brain, neuropsychological assessments, and serving learners from special populations with neurodevelopmental and related disabilities.
