  • CHM 5360 - Supramolecular Chemistry and Nanotechnology.


    (3-0-3) Basic inorganic chemical principles related to non-covalent interactions (hydrogen bonds, π-π stacking, and C-H···π interactions) will be outlined, as well as their use in the design of supramolecular systems, molecular devices and machines, and other nanoscale systems. Physical methods used to characterize these systems will also be presented.

    (3-0-3) The course introduces a collective view of both synthetic and physical topics in modern organic chemistry and related crossdisciplinary areas. An advanced study of chemical bonding and structure with emphasis on molecular orbital theory, conformational analysis, mechanisms, pericyclic reactions, enolate chemistry, and retrosynthetic/multistep synthesis.

  • CDS 4800 - Communication Modalities.


    (3-1-3) Course will provide information on expressive, nonverbal communication systems (sign language, and alternative and augmentative communication). These areas represent communication modes relevant to the practice of speech-language pathology. The lab will provide performance based application activities.

  • CDS 4810 - Sign Language and Deaf Culture for the Speech-Language-Pathologist


    (2-0-2)  This course will introduce students to varied forms of manual communication (e.g., signed English, American Sign Language, Cued Speech) and Deaf Culture. Students will develop accuracy and fluency with receptive and expressive signing skills, including basic vocabulary and simple conversation.

  • CDS 4815 - Augmentative and Alternative Communication


    (2-1-2) Course will provide information on alternative and augmentative communication systems (AAC) for individuals with severe communication disorders.  Students will gain mastery of knowledge and skills necessary for assessment and treatment of individuals who use AAC. Students will also gain operational competence and have hands on practice with a variety of AAC systems.

  • CDS 5001 - Research Experience in Communication Disorders and Science


    (1-0-1) Students will design and implement a research project to answer a clinical research question. Students will find, review, critique, and summarize research literature. Research questions will be developed; data will be collected, analyzed, and interpreted. Research results will be summarized and discussed in a research paper and poster presentation.

  • CDS 5090 - Advanced Clinical Techniques


    (1-1-1) Orientation to graduate clinical policies and procedures specific to the practice of speech-language pathology. Analysis and synthesis of diagnostic and treatment methodologies used in the management of clients with communication disorders.

  • CDS 5091 - Advanced Diagnosis of Communication Disorders


    (2-1-2) Students will apply principles of standardized and non-standardized assessment to case studies. Students will design assessments, interpret scores, draw conclusions, and produce written amalyses of decisions throughout the diagnostic process. Lab will require students to score and analyze standardized and non-standardized assessments. Student will shadow a clinical evaluation(s).

  • CDS 5100 - Motor Speech Disorders.


    (3-0-3) Advanced study of the neuromotor system responsible for speech. Content will include etiology and therapy for dysarthria, childhood and adult apraxia, cerebral palsy and other neuromotor and neuromuscular disorders.

  • CDS 5150 - Fluency Disorders


    (2-0-2) Prominent etiological theories of fluency disorders and  the development of stuttering are surveyed. Evaluation procedures and treatment strategies for fluency disorders are studied.

  • CDS 5170 - Voice Production and Disorders.


    (3-0-3) Study of the normal physiologic process of voice production and resonance and the etiologic bases of voice disorders.  Assessment procedures including instrumentation for examination and interpretation of laryngeal structure and function for the purpose of differential diagnosis will be included.  Development of treatment plans based on etiology will be addressed.

  • CDS 5200 - Developmental Syndrome Disorders.


    (2-0-2) Developmental syndrome disorders will be defined and discussed in regard to genetic markers and resulting characteristics. Emphasis will be on speech-language-hearing impact. Disorder discussion will include diagnostic assessment, behavioral symptoms, and treatment programming alternatives presented through case examples and video segments.

  • CDS 5220 - Language and Literacy


    (3-0-3) Course will address the oral-to-written language connection and the role of the speech-language pathologist in facilitating development of literacy skills. Assessment techniques and instructional approaches for prevention and intervention of oral and written language including reading methods, reading in the content area, narratives, spelling, and writing will be addressed.
